About Falconhurst Treehouses

A small, West Columbia-based building company that designs and builds custom treehouses, playhouses and backyard structures for families in the area. It's run by Rob Patterson, who handles projects directly rather than overseeing a large crew — the person who visits your yard is the same person who builds in it.

How it started

It didn't start as
a business plan.

In 2001, Rob Patterson's kids wanted a treehouse, so he built them one. A fairly ordinary reason, and not one that came with any grand ambitions attached. It just needed to be a place worth climbing into, and worth staying in until someone hollered that it was time to come inside.

It didn't stay a one-off project. Neighbors and other families started asking about it, and building custom treehouses gradually turned into what Rob does full-time. Falconhurst is still run the way that first project was: one builder, working through one family's yard and one family's idea at a time, rather than a standardized process applied the same way to everyone.

Who we build for

Falconhurst works with families throughout West Columbia and the surrounding area. Not every project looks the same, because not every family's yard, budget or reason for wanting one does either.

01

Parents of younger kids

Building something for younger kids who want a fort, a ship, or a castle depending on the day — sturdier and more personal than a store-bought playset, sized for the ages actually using it.

02

Families with older kids

Who want a real space of their own to disappear into with friends until the fireflies come out — not a structure they'll outgrow in a single summer.

03

Adults, too

Who want a quieter backyard retreat for themselves, not just a play structure for their children.

How we approach every project

Assess honestly,
then build accordingly.

That means if a tree can't safely support what a family has in mind, we say so before construction starts — and not after something's already built and it turns out the tree, or the structure, can't handle it.

It also means we don't work from a fixed catalog of pre-set designs. Every project starts with an in-person look at the actual yard and tree in question, because what works for one property doesn't automatically work for the next one.

What we bring to every build

Rob has been building treehouses since that first one in 2001, and he's directly involved in every Falconhurst project today — not handing designs off to be built by someone else.

Because Falconhurst is a small, local operation rather than a larger company with multiple crews, there's one point of contact throughout a project: the same person who assessed your yard, worked through the plan with you and built the structure is who you're talking to at every step.
